Why this recipe is perfect

This recipe is perfect for a potluck, bake sale, or a special occasion like Christmas or Valentine’s Day. It’s easy to transport and store, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser. Plus, it’s a fun recipe to make with kids.

Old-fashioned fudge

Yields: 16 squares

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 4 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 can (12 fl oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 bag (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, evaporated milk, and salt. Bring to a rolling boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from the heat.
  2. Stir in the chocolate chips until melted. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the fudge into an 8×8 inch baking pan lined with greased parchment paper. Spread the fudge into an even layer.
  4. Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature, for about 2 hours. Then cut the fudge into squares and serve.

Tips

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semisweet chocolate chips.
  • If you don’t have an 8×8 inch baking pan, you can use a 9×9 inch baking pan. The fudge will just be a little thinner.
  • To store fudge, place it in an airtight container and store it at room temperature for up to a week. You can also freeze fudge for up to 3 months.
