How to Make Brown Sugar Honey Butter Cornbread

1. Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together:

  • Cornmeal
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Salt

Set aside.

2. Mix the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, combine:

  • Buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil
  • Eggs
  • Sour cream
  • Vanilla extract

Mix until smooth.

3. Combine Without Overmixing

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry.
Start with a whisk, then switch to a spatula.
Fold gently—clumps are okay!
Overmixing will make the cornbread dense.

4. Add to the Pan

Pour batter into an 8×8 baking pan or a cast iron skillet.
Smooth the top evenly.

Drizzle honey over the surface and swirl with a toothpick for a marbled effect.

5. Bake

Bake at 375°F for about 1 hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

6. Make the Honey Butter Topping

In a small saucepan, melt together:

  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Honey

Let it come to a gentle simmer, then remove from heat.

7. Pour & Let It Soak

Pour the warm mixture all over the hot cornbread.
Let it soak for 10 minutes before slicing.

Extra honey butter on top? Always yes.
