Ingredients

For the Onion “Bun”:

  • 1 large yellow onion cut into ½-inch thick slices
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt pepper, and sugar (to taste)

For the Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend
  • McCormick Steakhouse Onion Burger seasoning optional
  • 4 slices American cheese or your favorite cheese

For the Burger Sauce:

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp pickle juice optional

Additional Items:

  • Parchment paper for smashing patties
  • Water for steaming onions
  • Cooking spray optional for griddle or pan

Instructions

Prepare the Onions:

  • Slice the yellow onion into ½-inch thick rings.
  • Coat each slice with olive oil, then season generously with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar.

Form the Burger Patties:

  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal parts (about 3-4 oz each).
  • Roll each portion into a ball, then place between parchment paper sheets.
  • Smash the patties flat using a heavy skillet or burger press. Season with McCormick Steakhouse Onion Burger seasoning.

Grill the Onions:

  • Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat.
  • Place the onion slices on the griddle and cook for 3-4 minutes, then flip to cook the other side.
  • Add a splash of water to the griddle and cover with a lid to steam the onions for about 2-3 minutes until softened. Set the onions aside.

Cook the Burger Patties:

  • On the same griddle or skillet, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 2-3 minutes on one side.
  • Flip the patties, immediately add a slice of cheese to each, and cover with a lid to allow the cheese to melt. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the patties are done.

Make the Burger Sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and pickle juice (optional).
  • Stir until smooth and creamy.
  • Assemble the Burgers:
  • Use one of the large cooked onion slices as the base.
  • Place a cheese-covered patty on top of the onion, then add a generous amount of the burger sauce.
  • Add a second cheese-covered patty and another onion slice to create the "top bun."

Wrap and Serve:

  • Wrap the burger in parchment paper to keep everything together and minimize mess.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Variations: Try swapping the cheese or adding crispy bacon for extra flavor.
Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove for best result.s
